At 26, Jordan Pickford is still young - especially for a goalkeeper.

The England international, who has been with Everton for the past three years after joining the Toffees from Sunderland in 2017, is still yet to convince many that he’s a top-class ‘keeper.

His reputation was sky-high after his eye-catching displays for England at the 2018 World Cup, but his performances since then haven’t always been as impressive.

Months after the World Cup, Pickford raised eyebrows with his comments about Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Alisson, just weeks after joining the Reds, made a mistake against Leicester City when an attempted Cruyff turn on his own byline went badly wrong.

Kelechi Iheanacho dispossessed the Brazilian ‘keeper before Rachid Ghezzal pulled a goal back for the hosts at the King Power Stadium, setting up a nervy final half-hour in the process.

Liverpool held on to their 2-1 lead and Jurgen Klopp defended his new goalkeeper, telling reporters the error ”was clearly going to happen one day”.

But Pickford angered Liverpool fans following an interview with the Daily Mail.

Alongside the Mail’s headline - 'I won't blunder like Alisson': Jordan Pickford vows not to take risks like the Liverpool goalkeeper - Pickford said: “It's a risk - if it comes off it looks good. But if it doesn't... It's a style of play and I think that's the way Liverpool want to play as well.

“Mistakes will happen and it's about not making the next one. I'm going to try not to put myself in that position to make those mistakes.

“It's the timing of the game, really. You don't want to get too comfortable if you're winning and start trying to be a No 10.

“If it's on to do I'll do it and if it's not we'll manage the game. That's where I learn more. The more games you play the more game management you learn.”

But since making those comments, Pickford has made a series of high-profile gaffes - as one Liverpool fan has highlighted on Twitter.

Everton’s No. 1 made another poor mistake during Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Leicester. If it wasn’t for Michael Keane coming to his rescue, it would have gone down as one of the most embarrassing goalkeeper gaffes in Premier League history.

And it seems this inspired the Liverpool supporter’s Twitter thread, pointing out some of the mistakes Pickford has made since publicly criticising Alisson.

This one against Liverpool was an absolute shocker.

A top-class goalkeeper has to be doing a lot better here.

Pickford’s distribution is one of the strongest aspects of his game, but this was poor.

Sunday League stuff, this. Calamitous.

Pickford has also made the odd mistake for England.

Christian Benteke doesn’t score many goals these days - but the Crystal Palace striker still managed to (somehow) find a way past Pickford here.

Unless Pickford eliminates these costly errors from his own game, it wouldn’t be a shock if Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti instructs his scouting staff to find a replacement - that’s if the Italian coach hasn’t already done so.

Pickford is still a talented young goalkeeper but, at this moment in time, he’s nowhere near Alisson’s level.
