It could be a memorable season for Leeds United.

Promotion is very much on the cards with the club sitting at the top of the Championship with just six games to go.

One point ahead of second place West Brom, and six ahead of the chasing pack, it seems that a place in the Premier League is very much there's to lose.

With that in mind it makes sense that the club have started making plans for the summer ahead.

Regardless of what league they're in, Leeds will be looking to strengthen their squad with an exciting new target coming to light.

According to Argentine publication Doble Amarilla, as quoted by Sport Witness, Leeds United are keen on a move for Lucas Martinez Quarta and Matias Zaracho.

Quarta, who plays for Argentine giants River Plate, is reportedly a 'top priority' for the Whites who are keen to sign a central defender ahead of the new season.

Valued at £9million by Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old is reportedly being monitored by other clubs in the Premier League.

As for Zaracho, the Racing midfielder is merely being monitored as a potential option for summer deal.

A deal could be unlikely, however, given the fact that the 22-year-old,Zaracho has a release clause in the region of €22million.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is one that I'd take with a rather large pinch of salt.

Leeds United are bound to be monitoring targets from all over the world and that includes players from South America.

However such links are so premature that there's little to suggest that a move could happen.

Lucas Martinez Quarta is certainly a player who is highly regarded, but it would be a big gamble for Marcelo Bielsa to sign the defender and throw him straight in for what could be their first season back in the Premier League.

My gut instinct is that this is just agent talk, with the players' representatives keen to drum up some interest for their clients.
