Jurgen Klopp was not a happy man after Liverpool's 4-0 defeat against Manchester City on Thursday night. The Reds suffered a nightmare first-half at the Etihad Stadium despite creating the first clear chance with Mohamed Salah striking the upright.A torrid few minutes from Joe Gomez, however, meant that the champions were left to rue their missed opportunity with the England international first conceding an unnecessary penalty.Kevin De Bruyne made no mistake from 12 yards and then the spotlight was once against cast on Gomez as Raheem Sterling, who won the penalty, breezed away from him to make it 2-0.And to rub salt into the wounds before the break, young Phil Foden extended his purple patch by finishing past Alisson Becker and into the roof of the net for a three-goal advantage.

Man City 4-0 Liverpool

Liverpool, to put things mildly, didn't look at the races with a Fabinho block bailing them out in the second-half and Sadio Mane seemingly forgetting how to kick the ball by spurning a big chance.

It proved costly, too, with City putting the game well out of reach shortly afterwards as Sterling's shot was turned into the Liverpool goal by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the stretch.

Perhaps the only saving grace was that VAR saved them the embarrassment of a second 5-0 loss at the Etihad in three seasons when Riyad Mahrez's near-post strike was chalked off.

Klopp's spiky Sky Sports interview

But regardless of whether Liverpool conceded four or five, it did little to cheer up their head coach who gave a spiky interview to Sky Sports just minutes after the drubbing.

Sure, Liverpool might have won the league this time last week, but Klopp was still visibly annoyed with the result and reporter Geoff Shreeves got it in the neck for a couple of his questions.

Check out the video down below to see Klopp's bewilderment when he was asked whether he thought Liverpool created clear chances while the score was 0-0:

Oh no, Geoff, that was never going to end well.

The next question was bizarrely followed up by Klopp misunderstanding Shreeves' English, though the tension could be traced back to the very first exchange about the Liverpool players' attitude.

See that down below:

Cause for frustration

The awkward chat - or 'excruciating' in the words of the Telegraph's James Ducker - eventually ended with Klopp remarking 'you're welcome' in what could only be described as a perplexed tone.

It's not unusual for Klopp to ditch his 'happy guy' persona after a Liverpool defeat, but it feels so unusual this season because, well, it's only the second time the Reds have lost in the league.

And despite the trophy already being theirs, we don't doubt that Klopp will convey as much frustration with his players at having lost 4-0 as he did with Shreeves in the mixed zone. Sheesh.
