Celtic's summer hasn't entirely gone to plan yet.

Despite winning a ninth successive title in a row, their transfer ambitions have fallen by the wayside.

Moi Elyounoussi may have arrived for another loan but they face an uphill battle to bring Fraser Forster back.

It's claimed Southampton want him to challenge for the number one shirt next season and thus, are unwilling to let him depart again.

Neil Lennon has been keen to bring him back but that idea has been scuppered.

The Hoops are having to look elsewhere for goalkeepers with Joe Hart and David Marshall supposedly alternatives.

However, Celtic are now targeting a further player at Wigan Athletic, a club in administration.

That player happens to be promising forward Joe Gelhardt.

Per a report from Football Insider, Nick Hammond and co are trying to lure the 18-year-old to Parkhead this summer.

Celtic have joined a plethora of Premier League clubs in the race to sign the teenager who could now be available in a cut-price deal after Wigan's administration.

The Hoops are now planning to make a pitch to the starlet with the hope of offering him a contract in Glasgow. It's not reported how much Gelhardt could cost.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Gelhardt is one of the most promising young English players in the football pyramid.

Aged just 18, there's obvious reasons he's been compared to former England star Wayne Rooney.

The teenager is from Liverpool and knows where the back of the net is. However, he still has a long way to go to replicate Rooney's achievements.

The Wigan forward has only scored once for the senior-team but has five goals in five matches for the U18 side this term.

Although relatively inexperienced, the early signs are incredibly promising and if he's available on the cheap, Hammond can't really go wrong by recruiting him. After all, the praise Gelhardt's earned is eye-catching.

After Wigan drew with Hull City in September last year, manager Paul Cook reserved special plaudits for the wonderkid.

He said: "To get on the pitch and make an impact in a game at Championship level like Joffy does, it will justify the feelings everyone has about the young man.

"He's got that special talent in football to create space in tight areas and you only have to look at his finish, the goalkeeper doesn't move.

"He's a great kid, he's a really nice young man and if he keeps working hard and keeps his head down, he's going to have a really bright future in the game."

Interesting words indeed. Celtic supporters should be particularly excited.
