West Ham have had a good week.

They beat Chelsea 3-2 to climb clear of the relegation zone and, all of a sudden, things look far rosier in east London.

Indeed, they are now three points clear of 17th-placed Aston Villa and 19th-placed AFC Bournemouth.

There are just six games of the season remaining and the Irons have a relatively favourable run-in; the only top-six side they face is Manchester United.

They take on Newcastle United this weekend and will hope to move even further clear of the bottom three.

However, they have also been rocked by news of a pending investigation.

FIFA are taking a close look at the club’s accounts and there could well be consequences for the Irons.

Indeed, Sky Sports reports that the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Sebastien Haller is now being analysed.

The Bundesliga club have lodged a complaint with FIFA, insisting that they have not received a £5.4 million sum from the Irons as part of their agreement to sign the striker.

Sky quotes sources from the Hammers claiming that the payment will soon be dealt with.

The Hammers agreed a fee of up to £45m for Haller in July of last year.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

The Guardian have reported that the Hammers are confident they will not receive a sanction for their defaulted payment.

However, this is not a good look for the Irons, particularly with the summer transfer window looming.

They will surely look to invest in their squad and bring in new players, particularly if they stay in the top-flight, but there are now likely to be doubts surrounding their ability to fulfil their payments.

FIFA can sanction the Hammers if they find evidence of wrongdoing, risking a warning, a fine, or potentially a transfer embargo.

The latter is not all that likely in this example but, even so, confidence in the Hammers’ dealings is likely to have been dented.
