It's shaping up to be a big summer for Tottenham Hotspur.

The North London club are preparing for their first summer under the leadership of Jose Mourinho which means that first team squad will need attention.

Spurs are enduring a bitterly disappointing season so far and find themselves way off the pace in the hunt for a top four finish.

That means that the chances of playing in the Champions League next term are slim at best.

Given increasing expectations at Tottenham, this season will go down as a failure and that means that some fresh faces could be brought to the club to galvanise their efforts for next term.

One man who has been linked is Allan Saint-Maximin.

According to the Daily Mail, the Newcastle United star is attracting admiring glances from the North London side.

Signed for just £16.5million last summer, the Frenchman is attracting the attention of several of the Premier League's top six, as well as French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Described by Steve Bruce as 'the signing of the season', Newcastle are unlikely to want to sell their prized asset, meaning that it would take a significant sum to convince them to sell.

According to the report, Spurs are willing to offer Juan Foyth and current Toon Army loan star Danny Rose in exchange for the winger, due to their inability to meet the club's likely asking price.

But whether Newcastle United would agree to such a deal is up for debate.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

The transfer window isn't even open and we're already gripped by what is going on.

Tottenham Hotspur are a club who will be determined to do some significant transfer business before the start of the new season, and Allan Saint-Maximin could certainly fit the bill.

That said, Newcastle United will be determined to keep hold of their star man.

Personally, I think that the winger is valued at around £50million in the current market, and anything less would be a bad deal for the Magpies.

While Danny Rose and Juan Foyth would be decent additions for Steve Bruce's side, I'm not sure that their additions make up for losing a potential match-winner like Saint-Maximin.
