Chelsea are well and truly splashing the cash.

Having undergone a transfer ban and subsequently saved something of a fortune, they have been aggressive in attempting to restructure Frank Lampard’s squad.

Hakim Ziyech has been signed from Ajax, while Timo Werner has also arrived from RB Leipzig, and it appears that the Blues aren’t done yet.

It is little surprise, either, with Chelsea bankrolled by the billionaire Roman Abramovich and having watched on as Liverpool won the Premier League title at a canter.

Chelsea have not been champions since 2017 and one has to imagine that fact is starting to grate on their owner.

To that end, Sport Witness carry a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, insisting that the club are now attempting to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer.

The report states that they have initiated contacts with Lazio over the purchase of the in-demand midfielder.

Real Madrid, PSG, and Manchester United are also said to be interested in snapping up the Serbia international.

Lazio have previously valued the midfielder at €100 million (£90.6m) but that fee is said to have dropped.

It appears as though the ball is in Milinkovic-Savic’s court, and he may well want to play Champions League football next season.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Chelsea are building quite the team.

A move for Milinkovic-Savic would be a genuinely astonishing signing.

He has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals and registering five assists.

Per WhoScored, he averages 1.8 tackles per game in Serie A, 1.2 interceptions, 1.6 clearances, 2 shots, 1.2 key passes, and 1.2 dribbles.

He also has a passing accuracy of 77.2% but that is more down to the risky, vertical nature of the passes he plays than any kind of deficiency in his radar. This is a complete midfielder.

He would come in and slot into Lampard’s midfield quite nicely, especially when one considers that he actually has a similar playing style to that of the ex-England international, in that he relishes arriving late into the box.

Milinkovic-Savic is world-class, and is valued at £57.6m by Transfermarkt.
