Arsenal’s plans for the summer transfer window are continuing.

The club are not yet sure where they will be finishing in the Premier League table.

They lie seventh and are just three points behind sixth-placed Wolves and six behind fifth-placed Manchester United.

The Gunners are also eight points behind fourth-placed Chelsea so Champions League qualification may still be on the table, particularly if Manchester City’s suspension from next season’s competition is upheld.

Their transfer plans remain up in the air, of course, as Arsenal have six games of the season remaining; they play Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Watford.

But they do have the option of extending the contracts of players currently at the club.

And The Sun reports that defender Shkodran Mustafi could be the recipient of a new deal.

While he has been an error-prone figure in the Gunners’ squad, he seems to have won over manager Mikel Arteta and that means that there is the prospect of him extending his stay in north London.

The 28-year-old has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, and has helped the club to three successive clean sheets against Southampton, Norwich City, and Wolves.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Mustafi’s form has been impressive.

They Gunners have lost just twice in the last 10 games Mustafi has played in, and they have conceded just 10 goals in that time.

His current contract expires in 2021 and keeping him around ensures that their squad depth in defence is maintained.

Mustafi is still only 28 and keeping him gives the Gunners the chance to find a first-choice defender to replace him, without losing a major squad asset.

This is a smart move.
