There's no denying that Barcelona are in the midst of a crisis right now.

Regardless of Sunday night's 4-1 victory away at Villarreal, Quique Setien's side are unquestionably on the decline, with Lionel Messi the only shining light through a difficult campaign.

But the 33-year-old is not going to be around forever, with the likes of Luis Suarez, Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets all approaching the final years of their careers as well.

There are exciting young prospects proving their worth at the club in the form of Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig, but Barca still need a serious injection of youth.

That means they will have to turn to the transfer market and the cash-strapped Spanish side are not going to find bringing in top players easy this summer.

Messi & Setien

As such, Barcelona are exploring player-plus-cash deals and two of their reported targets are a real surprise.

According to the Evening Standard, the La Liga outfit have already enquired about Tottenham duo Tanguy Ndombele, 23, and Ryan Sessegnon, 20.

The pair joined the north London club last summer for a combined fee of £80m, but have found the going tough under Jose Mourinho.

Ndombele has played just 19 minutes since the restart, while Sessegnon has been left out of Spurs' 20-man squad for the past two games.

It's certainly an eyebrow-raising rumour on the face of it, but it's easy to see why Barca would enquire about the two players.

Firstly, the pair would probably agree personal terms with the Spanish club in a heartbeat and both players' styles are tailor-made for the Blaugrana.

Ndombele's passing and dribbling abilities are top-notch, while Sessegnon would be given the licence to attack he craves from left-back at Barca.

But what players could Setien's side offer in return? Ivan Rakitic could perhaps be a viable option, but it's hard to think of many others that would pique Mourinho's interest.
