The midfielder has a deal on the cards from Udinese and with this contract expiring at the end of the season, can leave on a free.
Though, Italian publication Totto Udinese. claims another meeting will take place in the coming days over the player's future. They suggest the Magpies are wanting to tie him down for another three seasons.

If Longstaff wants to leave, which seemingly he does, then Newcastle will be powerless.
Though, one has to question whether he'd have signed a new deal if PIF's takeover had gone through.
Of course, no one really knows what's going through the 20-year-old's head but a large show of ambition could have swayed him to stay.
Unfortunately for the Magpies, they might never know what could have happened if he exits before the takeover is completed.
However, the fact Newcastle are still planning to sit down with the midfielder is a good thing. Bruce isn't willing to give up on one of their brightest talents and he's exactly spot on.
He may have just seven Premier League appearances to his name but he is the future of the club. Newcastle need young players from the academy in and around their squad.
