The news at Newcastle right now is non-stop.

Whether it's how the players are doing on the field of play or whether it's about the ongoing takeover, there is so much to digest at the moment.

PIF are still yet to pass the owners' and directors' test the Premier League have set out and despite Richard Masters' claims that a resolution would come soon, we're into another week without anything concrete.

Piracy in Saudi Arabia is playing havoc with any deal that could take place as the situation roles into unhealthy territory.

Will Steve Bruce keep his job? Will the brunt of Newcastle's players still be there after the summer? No one really knows.

However, there is another saga beyond the current takeover at Newcastle.

That surrounds young Matty Longstaff, one of the hottest talents to come out of the Toon's academy in recent years.

Steve Bruce

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce admitted the club could lose him during his press conference on Tuesday.

When asked about the player's future at the club, he said: "I have tried my upmost to get him to commit, but it is the player's prerogative these days.

"We will just have to wait and see and hopefully we will have good news one day."

However, in a fresh turn of events, Newcastle are still set to sit down with him and discuss his future.

The midfielder has a deal on the cards from Udinese and with this contract expiring at the end of the season, can leave on a free.

Though, Italian publication Totto Udinese. claims another meeting will take place in the coming days over the player's future. They suggest the Magpies are wanting to tie him down for another three seasons.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

As Bruce commented this week, it is the player's prerogative nowadays.

If Longstaff wants to leave, which seemingly he does, then Newcastle will be powerless.

Though, one has to question whether he'd have signed a new deal if PIF's takeover had gone through.

Of course, no one really knows what's going through the 20-year-old's head but a large show of ambition could have swayed him to stay.

Unfortunately for the Magpies, they might never know what could have happened if he exits before the takeover is completed.

However, the fact Newcastle are still planning to sit down with the midfielder is a good thing. Bruce isn't willing to give up on one of their brightest talents and he's exactly spot on.

He may have just seven Premier League appearances to his name but he is the future of the club. Newcastle need young players from the academy in and around their squad.
