Celtic are in dire need of a goalkeeper this summer.

Fraser Forster looks unlikely to return while Craig Gordon departed on a free transfer to Hearts.

That means the Hoops now have no real viable option between the sticks as they gear up for their pursuit of ten titles in a row.

As a result, the Bhoys have been linked with a number of replacements for Forster, a player who Southampton seemingly want to stick at St Mary's next term.

Joe Hart is one of the most eye-catching players touted with a move to Scotland, but there could also be a return for Wigan's David Marshall.

Also on their list of targets is Vaclav Hlady, now a free agent after leaving St Mirren.

However, another player in England is now reportedly being lined up by Neil Lennon and Nick Hammond as Forster's possible successor.

Lennon

That happens to be a goalkeeper in the second-tier of English football.

Per the Daily Mail, Celtic are eyeing a move for Fulham 'keeper Marcus Bettinelli.

With just a year left on his contract at Craven Cottage, he could cost as little as £1m, representing a bargain for Celtic's recruitment team.

Bettinelli is supposedly open to a change of scenery and a new challenge next season with the Bhoys representing an interesting option for the 28-year-old.

Whether Lennon prefers the Fulham goalkeeper over his other options is currently unclear.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Although Bettinelli has played just 14 times this season, he clearly fits the profile for the type of stopper that Lennon and Hammond are searching for.

Forster was a colossal frame for Celtic last term, standing at 6 foot 7, and thus, the Glaswegians will need someone to fill the goal in a similar way.

Although the Fulham man is three inches shorter, he is still a giant between the sticks and comes with a fine reputation.

When playing in the Premier League in 2018/19, England boss Gareth Southgate presented him with his first call-up to the national team.

Meanwhile, Bettinelli is a 'keeper who was once tipped to be Petr Cech's replacement at Chelsea.

In 2015, it was thought that Jose Mourinho was looking to lure him to the Blues in order to play second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois.

Unfortunately for the goalkeeper, that move didn't happen, but he could finally earn a taste of European football with Celtic.

At just £1m, he'd surely be a no-brainer for those in charge of the recruitment this summer.
