Tottenham have had incredibly mixed fortunes since football restarted.

Spurs have defeated West Ham and Everton but suffered a rather demoralising 3-1 loss at the hands of Sheffield United.

Conceding goals has been an issue for Jose Mourinho's men, shipping 45 strikes in his short Spurs tenure to date.

Acquiring new defenders will be of utmost importance to Daniel Levy and Mourinho over the summer with a number already being linked with a switch.

The club have been touted with moves for Merih Demiral and Ozan Kabak but nothing has materialised yet with the window still to open.

Throughout the last month or so Spurs have also been interested in Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma.

The Frenchman played under Mourinho at the Blues but they're now starting to ramp up their interest in the 25-year-old.

Zouma

According to the Express, they are now confident of concluding a £25m deal for Zouma to cross London to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mourinho is intent on bringing the central defender to the club in the summer but they're facing plenty of competition from Everton and Carlo Ancelotti.

Chelsea already have a replacement lined up with Declan Rice in mind.

The Spurs manager thinks the transfer window will be an unpredictable one but he clearly already has at least one player in mind that he wants to bring to north London.

Zouma

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

With Jan Vertonghten leaving this summer on a free transfer, Spurs will evidently need new defenders.

Add their woes in terms of conceding goals to the matter and they are rather desperate.

Zouma might not be the player some thought he would be when he was progressing through the ranks, but he still has some truly outstanding qualities.

The defender has been compared to Marcel Desailly, as well as being named as one of the most promising young players in Europe in 2014.

Within that, he was described as someone "blessed with exceptional power and technique."

Zouma

The centre-back has played 23 times in the Premier League this term, winning a colossal 4.3 aerial duels per game - a tally that eclipses every single player at Tottenham.

On top of that, Zouma has completed over 87% of his passes, as well as making two interceptions per match.

His reading of the game is superb while he has all the individual qualities needed for a modern-day defender. At just £25m, he would surely improve Mourinho's backline.
