Eddie Nketiah's red card late on proved costly as Jamie Vardy scored an equaliser with little time remaining on the clock.
Although there were plenty of positives, particularly the fact that Bukayo Saka claimed another assist, it was a big blow to their hopes of securing Champions League football.
This was their chance to make up points on their top-half rivals but it wasn't to be despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's first-half strike.
Whether he stays remains to be seen. It's thought the Arsenal skipper wants £250,000-a-week over three years to stay in north London, but Alexandre Lacazette's future is far from certain either - he is attracting interest from clubs like Inter Milan.
He is also having to play second fiddle to Nketiah since football restarted but after his red card, the Frenchman may well be able to get to the front of Arteta's mind again.
With Arsenal's two main strikers potentially out the door this summer, a replacement is being lined up.
French outlet Foot Mercato seem to think that'll be a striker in France, a part of the world the Gunners have strong connections too.
After signing Lacazette from Lyon, they're looking to target the Ligue 1 club again in pursuit of Moussa Dembele.
However, they will only try and buy the 23-year-old if both of the club's forward players walk through the exit door.
It's reported that the north Londoners will face competition from PSG and Atletico Madrid for the attacker who is currently valued at £36m by Transfermarkt.

Dembele would be a fine addition for a club like Arsenal and would represent a solid replacement for Lacazette.
The Lyon forward bagged 22 goals in 42 matches this term, while also laying on seven assists.
Though, if that doesn't sell supporters in Islington, the fact he's been mentioned in the same breath as a certain Thierry Henry should do.
Speaking about the Frenchman in 2017 when he was still with Celtic, Zinedine Zidane commented:
"I have played with the greatest strikers – Ronaldo, Henry, Raul. You knew on the biggest occasions they would win you games – and Dembele is already showing that."
Fine praise indeed for a striker who has adapted well after leaving the Hoops.
That alone shows that he could be an upgrade on a player like Lacazette, someone who has struggled this campaign.
He won the club's Player of the Season last term but has netted just ten times in 2019/20. At the age of 29, he is no spring chicken either.
