Liverpool are on course to beat Manchester City’s record for most points in a Premier League season after beating Brighton on Wednesday. The 3-1 win at the Amex Stadium means the Reds already have more points than Arsenal’s Invincibles recorded in 2003/04, and there still have four games to play.It was back in January, after having played just 23 games, that Liverpool surpassed Manchester United’s points tally for the entirety of the 2018/19 season. Then in February they went one better by recording more points than United’s 1996/97 champions. And in March, they moved beyond the 79 points than United’s 1999 treble winners set in their title triumph.p1ecpel9evvv8qcj1otl1jv9ke19.jpgNow we’re in July and Liverpool continue to leave United in their wake by reaching more points than Man United have EVER recorded in a 20-game Premier League season. They’re 3-1 win against Brighton pushed them to 92 points. The Red Devils have never reached that tally since Premier League sides started to play 38-game seasons in 1995-96.

In 1993-94, a United side managed by Sir Alex Ferguson managed 92 points, but teams played 42 games back then.

The biggest points tally the Old Trafford outfit have recorded across a 38-game campaign is 91 points, set in 1999/2000.

So Liverpool have outdone the best United side in the Premier League.

Of course, Man United fans can reply by pointing out their 13 PL titles compared to Liverpool’s one.

But if we’re wondering just who the single best team in the top flight era is, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to put any United side ahead of Liverpool.

GIVEMESPORT’s Scott Wilson says:

This isn’t an easy one for United fans to take.

They’re faced with the very real possibility of Liverpool joining Man City as the only teams to record 100 points.

And as good as Sir Alex Ferguson’s teams were, they didn’t come close to reaching triple figures.

The 1999/2000 team finished nine points shy, although they scored 97 goals and were an exciting side.

But in the argument over the single best Premier League outfits, the ease at which Liverpool are strolling to 100 points makes it hard to put any of Fergie’s teams ahead of them.
