If you’d offered Frank Lampard a top-four finish at the start of his first season as Chelsea manager, there’s no doubt he would have taken it.The Blues may have finished third in the Premier League last term but they were miles off Manchester City and Liverpool.And due to a transfer ban imposed by FIFA, Lampard was unable to bring in reinforcements during his first few months in charge - making his job all the more challenging.Lampard, though, managed to make the most of the situation, turning to youth and allowing the likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount to flourish in the process.Other members of the squad are also shining under Lampard’s management, including Christian Pulisic, who has been nothing short of exceptional in recent weeks.Chelsea have already done some brilliant business ahead of the 2020-21 season, wrapping up deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.Both Ziyech and Werner - aged 27 and 24, respectively - were among the most sought-after attacking players in Europe.And now, according to reports, the west London outfit also want to sign the hugely-talented Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

It’s understood that 21-year-old Havertz, who is reportedly valued at £90 million, is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans, as you can probably imagine, are getting giddy about the prospect of Havertz linking up with Werner and Ziyech - along with Pulisic and co. - next season.

You have to say, that’s a pretty formidable looking XI - particularly those front six.

And if Declan Rice, who remains a West Ham player for the time being, does prove to be a top-class centre-back, then that has the potential to be a game-changing defensive signing.

The same goes for Ajax’s Nicolás Tagliafico, who would replace Marcos Alonso.

Some Chelsea fans will argue that they need a new goalkeeper - Kepa Arrizabalaga hasn’t managed to convince everyone at the Bridge, Lampard included - in order to challenge Liverpool and City for the title next season.

But perhaps Kepa will prove his doubters wrong during the 2020-21 campaign.

If that happens, then Chelsea’s current odds of winning next season’s Premier League title (16/1) appear rather generous.

The Blues currently find themselves behind Manchester United (10/1), Liverpool (6/4) and City (Evans), according to Sky Bet.
