Rangers and Steven Gerrard have one goal next season - to bring the Scottish Premiership crown back to Ibrox.

For nine years in a row, the title has gone to the wrong side of Glasgow and Celtic.

However, if Gerrard is to be considered a success in Scotland, he must eventually topple Neil Lennon's men. It'll be no easy task, but there were certainly some promising signs in 2019/20.

Ultimately, the Gers finished 13 points behind their Old Firm rivals and have plenty of work to do, but before 2020 came around, they were in with a decent shout of challenging.

Though, things rather fell apart after the New Year. Alfredo Morelos scoring just once this calendar year sums it all up.

Efforts have been made to improve matters since. Ianis Hagi arrived on a permanent deal from Gent before Jon McLaughin walked through the doors from Sunderland.

They also acquired Leicester starlet Calvin Bassey for a minimal fee.

Though, the Gers could sign another young player from Leicester if reports are to be believed.

The Glaswegians have been linked with a move for right-back Dennis Gyamfi, but now it looks as though he's set to officially set.

That's according to Graphic Sports Online, who reveal they are making a move after positive reports from former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers.

The defender left Leicester officials 'stunned' when he turned down a new contract at the club this summer, enabling him to leave the Foxes for a compensation fee.

Rangers, as a result, are looking to pounce.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Gyamfi is hardly an eye-catching signing but he's very much one for the future. He's also a player they need.

Described as pacey, he is someone that loves to get forward, causing Manchester City's youth team plenty of problems in a game against them this season.

Although he's played just once for the U23 side, right-back is an area where Rangers need to improve and add more depth.

James Tavernier registers impressive numbers in attack, racking up 15 assists last term but he is questionable defensively.

Tavernier

He made a lazy and senseless error against Hearts earlier this term before making some rather questionable comments about the club's mentality in his programme notes.

For someone who is meant to be Rangers' captain, it wasn't the most ideal of examples to set.

It remains to be seen whether Gyamfi would be a success but all the Light Blues have to do is look towards Celtic's Jeremie Frimpong for an indication.

The young-full back hardly set the world alight for Man City's youth side but took to Scottish football like a duck to water.

For a small compensation fee, Director of Football Ross Wilson can't really go wrong with this signing.
