Neil Lennon has had a topsy-turvy summer so far.

After being crowned champions for a ninth successive time, they re-signed Moi Elyounoussi on loan for a further season.

However, the man everyone seemingly wants, Fraser Forster, is unlikely to return.

Lennon has been keen to see him come back to Parkhead following the conclusion of his loan but it appears as though Southampton want him to stick in England and compete for the number one spot at St Mary's.

With Craig Gordon walking through the exit door as well, a goalkeeper is clearly required. Joe Hart, David Marshall and Marcus Bettinelli have been touted as Forster alternatives but no one has been signed yet.

Though, the Hoops are also looking to sign a few younger players. Wigan's teenage attacker Joe Gelhardt has been linked with a move to Glasgow, but so too has one of their midfielders.

Celtic are clearly trying to take advantage of the Latics entering administration.

The latest name on people's lips, or rather Noel Whelan's, is central midfielder Jensen Weir.

Speaking about Celtic's interest in Gelhardt, he revealed that if the Bhoys were going to sign either of the duo, they'd have to battle Tottenham Hotspur.

Whelan told Football Insider

"Gelhardt and Weir, because of the administration, are in a very good position to get a move away from Wigan at the end of the season.

“They [Celtic] are going to have to compete with Tottenham and some other clubs as well.

“These two young players are wanted by some of the top clubs in Britain."

Although they'll probably come cheap, it won't be straightforward to sign them.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This wouldn't be the first time Celtic raided a cash-strapped English side.

Only last summer the Hoops swooped to lure one of the Football League's brightest players away from Bolton.

An ever-declining club, Bolton relinquished young midfielder Luca Connell to Celtic, a man who has quickly become one of the most highly thought of players in Scotland.

It has even been suggested that he could be the heir to Scott Brown's throne further along the line.

That is no indication of how Weir would do in Scotland but he has fine heritage in this country. He is the son of former Scottish footballer and Rangers man David Weir.

He played 69 times for the national team, making 162 appearances for Celtic's Old Firm rivals.

Whether that has any influence on a move to Celtic remains to be seen, but there's a reason Weir is the youngest player to ever play for Wigan - he's an extremely talented footballer - one hailed as "technically gifted" by his club.
