You can only imagine how frustrated the Newcastle United fans are.

It's been more than three months since the prospect of a £300million deal to purchase the club was officially revealed.

Since then, supporters have been waiting with bated breath.

Amanda Staveley is the main figure in the Saudi-backed consortium who are hoping to purchase the club, but the acquisition has proved to be anything other than straight forward.

The Premier League are currently running the rule of the investors to see that they match the requirements of a club owner in the Premier League, but issues such as piracy and human rights violations are only the start of the uncertainty over their credibility.

Meanwhile supporters continue to be at the end of their tether with current owner Mike Ashley, and will do just about anything to get rid of the Sports Direct mogul.

As soon as a takeover is completed it means that the club can forge ahead with making summer signings ahead of the new season.

One player who's future is in question is Nabil Bentaleb.

The midfielder is currently on loan at St James' Park but will return to Schalke 04 ahead of the new campaign.

But with a potential window to do business limited before the new season starts, Chris Waugh of The Athletic believes that a permanent deal could be agreed out of convenience.

Asked if Bentaleb has earned a permanent move to Newcastle, Waugh said: "I wouldn't be overly convinced but, the issue is, with the uncertainty over ownership and the lack of time between seasons, Newcastle may not have much of an option but to, purely for expediency reasons."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Chris Waugh may have a point in his verdict on Nabil Bentaleb.

While the midfielder hasn't been a glowing success since joining the club in January, he's been far from a disaster.

With this summer being heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic it means that the window could be limited to sign new players.

That means that a permanent move for Bentaleb could be a shrewd move as they look to add numbers to their squad.

Whether Newcastle can agree a deal with Schalke 04 however, remains to be seen.
