Liverpool's defeat against Manchester City a few weeks ago was nothing more than a blip.

They have since returned to winning ways by seeing off Aston Villa and Brighton, surpassing the 90 point mark in the process.

By doing so, they have won the Premier League with more points than Manchester United have ever recorded - quite the achievement for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp's men have been without a doubt the best side in the country this term, maybe even the world.

Their win at the Club World Cup back in December would suggest they have. What's next for Klopp and Liverpool remains to be seen, but they could have the pick of the transfer market once the window opens.

One player they've been pursuing is at Bayern Munich.

No, it's not Philippe Coutinho, but another creative diamond that could make the move to Anfield.

Klopp

That man in question is Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard has been linked with Liverpool over the last few weeks and have been installed as favourites to acquire his signature.

Though, it's since been claimed that a move for the midfielder isn't a priority.

The Independent have now claimed that Thiago is indeed available but any deal will be complex.

Bayern want over £30m for the 29-year-old with the Bundesliga club ready to enter negotiations if a financially acceptable offer comes in.

The report states that Liverpool and Michael Edwards would have to bypass a lot of red flags in order to bring the midfielder to Merseyside.

Thiago

GIVEMSPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

If Liverpool were missing anything it would be a genuinely world-class midfielder.

Jordan Henderson has come on leaps and bounds this season while Fabinho is always a reliable figure in the holding role, but none possess the type of quality that Thiago has.

He is exceptional, a player who completes over 90% of his passes while performing a massive three dribbles per match.

Those are two statistics that make it incredibly hard for anyone to get near him, twisting and turning past his marker before picking out a teammate.

Thiago

It's no surprise to see him earn comparisons to a certain Paul Scholes, a Premier League great who always made life difficult for the opposition.

Writing in a piece about Thiago and his 'romance' with Pep Guardiola at Bayern, Barney Ronay said:

"Thiago is simply a wonderful player, with an ability to take, give and redirect the ball that has something preternaturally lithe and swift about it, a skinny little Iberian-Brazilian Paul Scholes made of feathers, pollen and petals."

Quite the praise for 29-year-old, a player who has displayed fine consistency during his career to date. He'd an exceptional signing, even if there are red flags about the deal.
