Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Juventus hasn't exactly been the fairytale he might have imagined.Although the Old Lady are well on their way to an unprecedented ninth consecutive Serie A title, there's a deflated atmosphere at the club after their collapse from 2-0 down against AC Milan. It was another gut-punch of a result to go with their defeat against Napoli in the Coppa Italia final, losing on penalties after a goalless draw with Ronaldo not getting round to his own spot kick.

Hard work for Ronaldo in Turin

As a result, Ronaldo's trophy cabinet at Juventus is looking more threadbare than you'd expect with merely a Supercoppa Italiana and a Scudetto that - let's face it - is a formality these days.

One of Ronaldo's biggest motivations to play in Turin was to win the Champions League title with a third club, but that too has proven to be a difficult task less than two full seasons in.

Juve were knocked out with a whimper against a youthful Ajax side last year and are teetering on the edge of another tepid elimination after losing the first leg of their round 16 tie with Lyon.

Is Ronaldo being hard done by?

But to what extent is the Juventus situation the fault of Ronaldo? Well, considering his stats in 2019/20, the answers seem to be very little.

CR7 has been a shining light for the Italian champions in his second season, scoring 26 goals in 27 league games and 30 strikes in all competitions despite now being 35 years old. Staggering.

However, if there's any downside to Ronaldo's impeccable statistics, it's the fact it could be covering up some of the wider cracks and chasms that are yawning at the Allianz Stadium.

Twitter thread on Juve's struggles

If that sounds a little dramatic at this stage then fear not because Twitter user @bothgoats has compiled a gripping thread on why this season is one of Ronaldo's crowning achievements.

It highlights the 'shocking truth about this Juventus side', which shows that Ronaldo could be hitting astronomical figures if it wasn't for being surrounded by a sub-par system under Maurizio Sarri.

You can check out the full thread down below to see what Ronaldo has been dealing with:

Ronaldo still shining

It's utterly bonkers to think that the Italian champions are less efficient at creating big chances than Leicester City, Villarreal, Hoffenheim and just about every other European juggernaut.

Juve have one of the greatest finishers to ever play the sport in their possession, but they're not creating the opportunities either through crosses or long balls for him to truly kick on.

In fact, the more you read into the club's banal statistics this season, the crazier it seems that Ronaldo has managed to haul himself up to fourth place in the European Golden Shoe standings.

So, sure, calling this one of Ronaldo's greatest achievements might feel like Jose Mourinho celebrating second place at Manchester United, but it's clear that he's been hard done by.

The only consolation for fans that have adored watching him for years is that Ronaldo can always muster something special, whether he's playing with 10 Juventus stars or 10 cardboard cutouts.
