Chelsea have been enjoying an excellent build-up to the summer transfer window.

They have already secured the signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, splashing £33.6 million on the playmaker.

They have also bolstered their forward line, agreeing a deal to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig for a fee of £45m, having triggered his release clause.

Reports state that there is interest in Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, too.

It makes sense, with Chelsea banned from signing players last summer and clearly banking the money needed to finance such an aggressive recruitment transfer strategy this summer.

They have now reportedly set their sights on a wonderkid as the window looms.

Of course, Frank Lampard’s side need to add strength in depth as well as bringing in first-team stars.

And Sport Witness carries a report from Calciomercato, claiming that they have joined the race for Penarol youngster Facundo Pellistri.

Both Juventus and Manchester City are also reportedly interested, along with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea are said to have shown a concrete interest in snapping up Pellistri, though it is City who have been in contact with the 18-year-old’s camp.

Pellistri is a right winger who can also play on the left flank, and he has made 25 appearances for the Uruguayan club, scoring once, while also registering three assists.

Penarol could demand a major fee for the teenager.

He has a contract until 2022, having been handed a new deal earlier this year to reward his graduation from the academy.

With such elite clubs interested in snapping him up, one has to imagine that Penarol will want to be properly compensated for their prized asset.

He is valued at £1.62 million by Transfermarkt but, with the likes of City and Chelsea monitoring his progress, they could increase that figure tenfold.

Penarol were able to demand £9.4m for Brian Rodriguez last summer, with the 19-year-old moving to Los Angeles FC.
