Tottenham Hotspur were roundly terrible on Thursday evening.

Playing against a Bournemouth side with genuine fears of relegation, and who conceded nine goals in their previous two matches, one had to think that Spurs would win the game comfortably.

They were looking to move above Arsenal in the Premier League table ahead of this weekend’s north London derby, while the Cherries were hoping to climb out of the drop zone.

The two sides, though, played out a 0-0 draw.

Bournemouth actually could have won the game, as Callum Wilson sent an overhead kick into the back of the net in the final minute of the game.

Joshua King’s handball, though, meant that the goal was ruled out, and the game ended with something of a whimper.

Manager Jose Mourinho has a right to feel aggrieved, though, as Harry Kane was denied a penalty in the first-half, despite clearly being bundled over in the box.

However, one statistic doing the rounds on social media absolutely damns the approach of the Portuguese on the south coast.

Journalist Daniel Storey, who has worked for The Independent and BBC Sport, posted a tweet showing just how awful Spurs were on Thursday.

He wrote: “Tottenham have become the first team to fail to have a shot on target against Bournemouth since Middlesbrough in the Championship in March 2015.”

It becomes all the more damning when one considers that Bournemouth lost 5-2 to Manchester United at the weekend and, prior to that, were beaten 4-1 by Newcastle United.

In total, Spurs had seven shots on goal but did not trouble Aaron Ramsdale at all.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

This is an utterly damning indictment on Mourinho’s tenure at Spurs.

He only replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November but the football has been absolutely appalling since the resumption of proceedings following COVID-19.

Against Everton, they only recorded a 1-0 win because of Michael Keane’s own goal; the game prior to that saw Spurs lose 3-1 to Sheffield United.

In total, they have had five shots on target in the last three games, and the dirge being served up across the last few games has led to some deserved questions over the former Real Madrid manager’s reign.

Spurs take on Arsenal this weekend and there will be yet more questions over his reign if they are defeated in the derby.
