Rey Mysterio's WWE career could soon be coming to an end.

It's reported that the legendary luchador is currently working without a contract - and has been doing so for a number of weeks.

The deal, which he signed in 2018, has already expired and he's now working under a handshake agreement.

It's unclear how long Mysterio will remain in WWE and his match against Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules later this month could well be his last.

If it is, there's no denying he'll walk away a legend.

Mysterio has been professional wrestling's most iconic masked figure for almost two and a half decades, rarely giving us a glimpse of the man behind the mask.

But earlier this week, he shocked fans by uploading a photo of his full face on his personal Instagram account.

Mysterio has rarely been unmasked in WWE

Seeing Mysterio without his mask is certainly a rarity.

Really, we have to go all the way back to 1999 to see footage of him maskless - back in his WCW days.

The future Hall of Famer has been unmasked on WWE TV more recently, with Randy Orton exposing his face in 2018 and Andrade doing the same earlier this year.

Mysterio's face is covered when he's unmasked on TV

But on both of those occasions, cameras failed to give us a real look at Mysterio's face, as he was quickly covered to protect his identity.

So for the man himself to fully unmask on social media really is quite shocking - and the fact he's done so could be another subtle hint that his time in the ring is soon coming to an end.
