Middle-East takeovers seem to be the order of the day at the moment.

Newcastle's saga with Saudi Arabia and Mohammed Bin Salman has been in its final stages for well over three months now.

However, like Qatar Sports Investments and Leeds United, nothing has been wrapped up and confirmed.

Coincidentally, claims that PSG's owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi are involved in Newcastle's takeover have also emerged.

Henry Mauriss, an American entrepreneur who lodged a £350m bid to buy the Magpies had to come out and deny that he was receiving backing from Nasser and Qatar.

That begged the question of whether he was still interested in buying Leeds.

Reports first emerged of a takeover from the Middle East of May 2019 but over a year on, nothing much has come out of either camp regarding a sale.

Differing claims have been made regarding Qatar's interest in the Yorkshire club, with an estimated valuation even emerging.

Though, despite those notions, they have never acted on their interest. It hasn't helped either than Andrea Radrizzani has ruled out a sale.

Unfortunately for Leeds supporters wanting the takeover to go through, Phil Hay delivered a negative update.

The reporter was speaking in his post-match Q&A following the club's 5-0 demolition of Stoke on Thursday evening.

He issued a three-word update that put any immediate sign of the takeover happening down the drain.

Hay stated when asked if he'd heard anything new: "No, nothing more.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

We're not quite at the stage Newcastle's takeover is at with Leeds, but it shows there are clear positives and negatives with such a manoeuvre.

With the Magpies' plans for Mike Ashley to leave dragging on for nearly half the year so far, it's become incredibly tiresome. Yet, it's also rather exciting for the Toon Army.

They are a sleeping giant, very much like Leeds, and could do with some Middle-Eastern firepower and investment to take them to the next level.

Nasser PSG

Whether QSI's interest in the Whites catches fire upon their promotion to the Premier League remains to be seen, but it would surely be an eye-catching proposition for the Qatari's.

Radrizzani has previously stated that such seismic investments from the other side of the world could put Leeds on par with Manchester City - that's how big this takeover would be.

Unfortunately for those wanting to see more cash roll into Elland Road, it doesn't look like it'll happen anytime soon.

The wait goes on.
