Mario Balotelli's footballing career will forever be defined as 'unfulfilled potential'.

Unless the 29-year-old suddenly turns into Cristiano Ronaldo for the latter stages of his career, it's virtually impossible to say the Italian has been a consistent success.

There have, of course, been major highs since his professional debut as a 16-year-old with Lumezzane in 2006, but they've sadly been outweighed by significant lows.

The enigmatic striker is currently contracted to Italian outfit Brescia, but it has been a career move that's worked out for neither party.

He's scored just five times in 19 appearances for the club and Balotelli is now locked in a war of words with Brescia over an ongoing contract dispute.

Both the player and his controversial agent, Mino Raiola, claimed that the striker was not tested for coronavirus since the lockdown in Italy was lifted, which resulted in him being turned away from training due to an invalid medical certificate.

Now, Brescia have intensified the battle with Balotelli by updating his personal profile on their official website.

They state that the forward now weighs 99.8kg, which is around 8kg overweight for a player of his height.

This is far from the first time Balotelli's weight has been the subject of controversy during his career.

When the Italian was at Nice, he reportedly turned up for pre-season 15kg overweight and he then responded to the allegations in typical Balotelli fashion on social media.

“Me fined for being overweight? 1 Look at the physique I’ve got! It’s laughable that you talk of me being overweight,” he wrote on Instagram.

Balotelli waves

“2 Now go **** yourselves with your invented garbage! Now you even say I’ve been fined? Whoever wrote that ought to lose their job.”

Surely we're going to get more Balotelli social media fireworks (not ones left off in the bathroom) in the coming days after Brescia's latest public dig?

There really is never a dull moment with Mario.
