Celtic need to find a replacement for Fraser Forster.
Having won the curtailed Scottish Premiership comfortably, with a 13-point gap to second-placed Rangers, they are looking to the summer transfer window.
Forster could have been a possible signing, but it appears that such a deal is currently impossible to pull off.
The Scottish Sun had reported that the on-loan goalkeeper will be returning to Southampton this summer, with Celtic unable to afford the Saints’ £5 million asking price.
He also earns over £90,000-per-week at St Mary’s, a wage that Celtic simply can’t match.
There are, naturally, a number of possible replacements out there for the Scottish giants.
And The Daily Record reports that Celtic are interested in signing David Marshall from Wigan Athletic, who have been plunged into administration.
Marshall began his career at Celtic, spending five years at the club between 2002 and 2007, and has since played for Norwich City, Cardiff City, Hull City, and now Wigan. He has also won 33 caps for Scotland.
Football Insider reports that Joe Hart and Vaclav Hladky could also be snapped up, given that both are currently free agents, but Frank McAvennie believes that signing Marshall would be the right move.
He said, speaking to Football Insider: “Lenny is starting to look at other players.
“There is talk about Marshall coming up. I think the fact that Marshall has been at Celtic before is a big benefit.
“At Celtic you have to win every week and some players cannot handle that. They do not accept defeat.
“It has to be the right man that comes up, in any position, and they need the character. Some players cannot handle the rivalry against Rangers and the demands of playing for a big club.
“I suspect there will be some decent teams coming in for Marshall but he would be a good bet because he is a great keeper. I would take him over Joe Hart, that is for sure.”

Marshall was schooled at Celtic and knows exactly what it takes to play for the biggest club in Scotland.
As McAvennie says, it certainly isn’t for everyone; the pressure is on to perform every single week.
But there will be precious little adjustment time needed and Marshall would also cost a nominal fee.
He has made 35 appearances in the Championship this season, keeping 13 clean sheets, and he would slot right into Lennon’s squad.
It’s a no-brainer.
