The race to become Scottish champions next year is already very much underway.

While Rangers have aspirations of kicking on next term and providing viable competition, the target at Parkhead is much more ambitious.

Coming away as Champions next term will mean that Celtic have made in 10 titles in a row - something that their rivals will certainly find difficult to stomach.

However if the Bhoys are to do that then they'll need to make sure that they make a success of the summer's transfer market.

Based on the latest reports, Celtic have made a formal offer for Shon Weissman.

Weissman has been prolific for Austrian side Wolfsberfer AC adrer scoring 29 goals in 30 appearances so far this term.

It's the 24-year-old's first season in Austria since arriving from Maccabi Haifa, but if reports are to be believed then he could be preparing for pastures new once more.

According to Wolfsberger chief Dietmar Riegler, the striker has attracted several offers already, however the frontman is hoping for a move to either Germany or England.

Speaking to Kleine Zeitung, he said: "As you already know, he wants to go to Germany or England.

"But we've not yet had any inquiries from there.

"Offers have come, amongst others, from Russia and Scotland, from Glasgow Celtic.

"Because of the Corona crisis, everything is different this year. The seasons in Germany have now ended.

"The clubs know where they will play in the coming season. I think the next few days will be interesting for Shon."

Weissman could be seen as the ideal replacement for Odsonne Edouard.

The 22-year-old has been a revelation for the Scottish champions in the summer of 2017.

Since then, the French forward has scored 60 goals in 126 appearances, alerting some of Europe's biggest clubs to his ability.

Arsenal are one of the clubs who are rumoured to be interested in a move, with an approach increasingly likely as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's future hangs in the balance.

But instead of waiting for an imminent approach, Celtic fans will be pleased to see the club taking a proactive approach.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Odsonne Edouard is likely to be in high demand this summer.

That means that it makes perfect sense for Celtic to be preparing a possible list of replacements for the 22-year-old.

While keeping hold of the French striker will obviously be the preference, cashing in for a tidy profit could be a shrewd move - providing that a suitable, cost-effective replacement can be found.

Shon Weissman has a decent reputation on the continent and could well do a good job if stepping into the Scottish game, that said, he's likely to be one of several potential targets.
