Following Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton’s win in the Styrian Grand Prix yesterday, he has now won a Grand Prix in three different decades (2000s, 2010s and 2020s).
The 35-year-old sealed the deal by beating teammate Valtteri Bottas to claim his 85th Grand Prix win; now only needing six more to tie Michael Schumacher for the record of most Grand Prix wins ever (91).
Hamilton’s first Grand Prix win came back in 2007, in just his sixth professional race. This was back when he was racing for McLaren.
At the time, he was the youngest champion of the sport ever.
Eighty five wins and 250 races later, he has won in three different decades.
Despite Hamilton recently being linked with a ‘dream move’ to Ferrari, he has stayed true to Mercedes, where he has had so much success throughout his whole career.
Throughout his star-studded career, he has racked up six world titles, only one behind Schumacher, and if he does win the 2020 Drivers' Championship, he will tie the legendary German's record.
Five of his world titles have come with Mercedes and only one of them have come with McLaren.
With his success in F1, he has earned a lot of money and is currently estimated to be worth around $285 million (£226,204,500).
What’s even scarier is that Hamilton has shown no sign of letting up, winning three world titles in a row and looking in good stead to win a fourth, sitting only six points behind teammate Bottas.
If Hamilton carries on at this pace, he will surpass most of Schumacher’s records which looked unbeatable just a few years ago.
Hamilton has not only been doing his talking on the track, he has been doing a lot off it, being a massive supporter of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.
Hamilton has been the subject of racist remarks in his career and has recently spoken out about how he received no help in early parts of his career.
Despite this, he managed to silence the haters and let his driving do the talking on multiple occasions, showing why he is the best in the world at what he does.
Not many who have ever been involved in the sport of F1 can say they have won a Grand Prix, let alone have won one in three different decades.
Hamilton is in elite company and can not be excluded from conversations for the greatest of all time when it comes to Formula 1.
