It could be a memorable season for Leeds United with promotion very much on the cards.

Top of the Championship, Marcelo Bielsa's side are six points clear of the play-off position with just three games to go.

The club are doing all that they can to prepare for next season and that includes targeting signings for the summer.

According to The Sun's Alan Nixon, one player who has been linked is Joe Gelhardt.

The Wigan Athletic star is attracting plenty of interest this summer after bursting onto the scene.

The Latics face an uncertain future after going into administration, meaning that the 18-year-old could be available for a relative cut-price fee.

Clubs such as Celtic, Liverpool, Everton and Leicester City are all said to be keen, but it's the interest of Leeds United that's capturing attention.

Leeds are making the addition of a striker a top priority this summer with Patrick Bamford proving to be inconsistent, and Jean-Kevin Augustin flattering to deceive since arriving in January.

While the Whites are obligated to sign the RB Leipzig striker on a permanent deal this summer it's unlikely that he'll play for Bielsa's side which means that a move for Gelhardt could gather pace.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is a deal that appears to be gathering pace all of the time.

There's no secret that Leeds United are looking for a striker to join the club this summer, and Joe Gelhardt is one of those on their radar.

The 18-year-old is very highly-rated and looks set for a career at the highest level.

A move to Leeds would certainly give him the platform to make that step up, and so a move could be very appealing.

Given Wigan's financial situation, they're likely to be active in trying to offload a number of their players and so the Whites may be able to scoop up the starlet for a real bargain fee.
