Manchester City supporters breathed a collective sigh of relief on Monday morning when it was confirmed that their two-year ban from European club competitions was overturned.City had been facing the prospect of missing out on the Champions League when UEFA ruled they had committed “serious breaches” of Financial Fair Play regulations between 2012 and 2016.But the Court of Arbitration for Sport announced City were cleared of “disguising equity funds as sponsorship contributions”.The sight of Pep Guardiola celebrating the decision with his staff summed up the feeling within the club right now.p1ed48rj9pus61qikqm5mv1nph9.jpgAnd their fans are delighted, too.Perhaps none more so than Liam Gallagher, who has spent the whole day winding up Liverpool fans on Twitter.Gallagher, of Oasis fame, has been going back and forth with Liverpool supporters in a series of tweets."What was that about being banned from Europe sit down P***FLAPS MCFC x," Gallagher wrote. When one Liverpool fan asked Gallagher whether the Reds have money or not, Gallagher responded: "You ain’t got enough to sign KDB so zip it."Check out some of his other tweets...

He's a right wind-up merchant.

It’s a huge win for Manchester City, who can now look ahead to Champions League football next season.

A two-year ban from European competitions would have caused problems for the club’s finances and their chances of retaining their best players.

Quite what the reversal means for FFP, though, is another matter.

How can it be relied upon after City, who were found guilty of breaking the rules and failing to cooperate in UEFA’s investigation, managed to walk away with just a €10 million fine, which is nothing for a club with their finances?

In a statement, City said: “Whilst Manchester City and its legal advisors are yet to review the full ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the Club welcomes the implications of today’s ruling as a validation of the Club’s position and the body of evidence that it was able to present.

“The Club wishes to thank the panel members for their diligence and the due process that they administered.”

What a story it will be if City go on to win the Champions League this season.
