Tottenham Hotspur's Welsh wing wizard Gareth Bale hailed his side's spirited performance in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday, which saw them clinch a vital 3-2 victory over Stoke City.

The win moves Spurs to within three points of fourth-placed Manchester City, and after their Champions League qualification competitors lost emphatically at Anfield last night, the impetus is now with Harry Redknapp's side to push on up the table.

"It was a massive three points. We've had a hard time recently not getting the wins, perhaps drawing too many games and not getting that bit of luck but we showed our true class on Saturday," said Bale.

The victory represented Tottenham's first win in their last five Barclays Premier League outings, and was made all the more impressive by the fact that it came off the back of last week’s 4-0 drubbing by Real Madrid.

"It was hard in Madrid and being down to 10 men made it a bit of an unrealistic scenario, but we showed our character once again this season and got ourselves the three points that push us closer to fourth."

Next up for Spurs is their quarter-final second leg tie, where they welcome Jose Mourinho and Los Blancos to White Hart Lane tomorrow night.

It would take a valiant effort for Tottenham to overcome the four-goal deficit, but they will take confidence from the weekend's result and anticipate another committed performance to continue momentum ahead of the end of season run-in.
