Manchester United squandered the chance to climb to third in the Premier League table following a 2-2 draw with Southampton.

United conceded a late equaliser to draw 2-2, which leaves them fifth.

They were on the cusp of yet another win until Michael Obafemi's late, late equaliser.

A top four spot, and a place in the Champions League group stage, is now that much harder following a disappointing end to proceedings at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer’s side had to come from behind though after making a slow start to proceedings at Old Trafford.

Stuart Armstrong scored in the 12th minute to give Southampton the lead after Paul Pogba was dispossessed outside United’s area.

But Southampton’s lead last just eight minutes before a three-minute blitz from the hosts, fuelled by an assist and goal from Anthony Martial, turned the game on its head.

The Frenchman showcased impressive hold-up play before teeing up Marcus Rashford to score the equaliser.

Minutes later Martial scored his 21st goal of the season with a fine finish of his own.

United were able to hold on until the 95th minute when Obafemi equalised from a James Ward-Prowse equaliser.
