Manchester United suffered heartbreak in stoppage time against Southampton on Monday night.The Red Devils had the opportunity to move into third place with a win over the Saints, but instead remained behind Chelsea and Leicester City with a 2-2 stalemate at Old Trafford.And the writing was on the wall early on when Paul Pogba was punished for cheaply conceding possession on the edge of his own area, allowing Stuart Armstrong to open the scoring.

However, the United rebuttal was swift with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men showing exactly why their front three is one of the most feared in the Premier League.
Anthony Martial provided some brilliant hold-up play to assist Marcus Rashford's equaliser, before finding the net himself with a fine individual goal from another Bruno Fernandes assist.
Many United fans thought Southampton should have been reduced to 10 men after Oriol Romeu's brutal tackle on Mason Greenwood, but it was actually the hosts that went a man down late on.

Brandon Williams was bloodied, bruised and taken off after a late clash of heads, which United couldn't remedy with a substitution and the game slowly crept deeper into stoppage time.
And it was on 96 minutes when the hammer blow was struck with Michael Obafemi arriving at the back post to tap home James Ward-Prowse's corner, which seemed to evade everybody.
You had to wonder why one of the United defenders wasn't there to smash the ball into the stands and see out the draw, but replays of the goal have helped explain why that wasn't the case.
Maguire marking Wan-Bissaka
In fact, United captain Harry Maguire has come in for heavy criticism after various angles of the equaliser seemed to show him marking his own player before the ball flew overhead.
The England international inexplicably gravitated towards Aaron Wan-Bissaka, even going as far as grabbing him, while Jack Stephens is allowed to go unmarked just a few inches to his side.
The discombobulated Maguire is then rendered helpless as he watches in dismay as the ball flies to Obafemi, who duly finds the net. Check out the strange footage down below:

I want to tell you that rival fans are overreacting for retweets and the world's most expensive defender actually had a genius plan that just went badly wrong, but ermmmmm... I have no idea.
My closest guess is that Maguire was zonal marking, knew the ball was going too deep for Stephens - thus leaving him - and thought for a split-second that he could piggyback on Wan-Bissaka to head it away.
Christ, it almost sounds like a conspiracy theory.
If I'm totally honest, though, I have no clue what Maguire was trying to achieve, but it's hard to judge whether he could have made a clearance because the height difference is unclear in the footage.
Either way, I'd advise any football coaches reading this article against telling your defenders to mark their teammates. You don't have to take having 'United' in your club name quite that literally...
