Leeds make offer to sign midfielder

Leeds are right at the top of their game at the moment.

Clear at the top of the Championship table, it would take a monumental turn of events for the Whites to blow it now.

That, of course, happened last term, but lessons have been learnt and the mentality has clearly improved.

That was evident against Swansea last weekend. A 1-0 victory courtesy of Pablo Hernandez was the end result but last season, it may have been a game where they caved under the pressure and failed to score.

There is something different about this Leeds side but they'll have to negotiate the next set of games without Kalvin Phillips who has been ruled out with an injury.

Who replaces him remains to be seen. They could go with Stuart Dallas or Marcelo Bielsa could choose to move Ben White further forward, something he's done on a couple of occasions this season to good effect.

However, Phillips may well have some competition next term if Victor Orta lands one of his summer targets.

Leeds have been linked with the colossal 6 foot 5 frame of Patrick Erras in recent weeks.

However, there has now been an update in their pursuit of the midfielder.

Erras is now out of contract following the expiration of his contract with Bundesliga 2 outfit Nurnberg and since then, the recruitment team at Elland Road have stepped up their chase.

BILD claim that the Whites have now made an offer to lure him to Yorkshire next season.

If they do agree terms, Leeds will only have to part company with a weekly salary, rather than a fee as well.

Werder Bremen and QPR are also in the hunt for Erras according to the report.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

If and when Leeds get promoted they will need players in their squad capable of playing at the elite level.

Erras may not have experience of English football but he's played in Germany's top-flight in the past - playing 19 times in the Bundesliga.

The 25-year-old featured in the second division this term but was impressive, winning 3.3 aerial duels per game and most notably to Bielsa - completing 83% of his passes across the campaign.

Though, one of the most eye-catching parts of Erras' career to date are the Granit Xhaka comparisons he's earned - being described as a 'weapon' in the process.

Xhaka v Leeds

Borussia Monchengladbach were interested in the holding player back in 2016 and thought of Erras as a potential successor for the Switzerland international who is now at Arsenal.

Fussball Transfers claim their tackling ability is similar but it remains to be seen whether Leeds' target would have a similar spell to the one Xhaka has endured in England.

Either way, Erras is low risk on a free transfer.
