Celtic's transfer plans were thrown into disarray a few weeks ago.
The club were all of a sudden rocked by the news that Fraser Forster was unlikely to return to Parkhead.
The towering goalkeeper enjoyed an impressive loan spell under Neil Lennon last season but it looks increasingly likely that he won't be seen in green and white again anytime soon.
Southampton reportedly want Forster to stay on the south coast of England and fight for his place.
The Saints' current number one is Alex McCarthy but they want the goalkeeping giant to compete for a spot between the sticks.
As a result, the Hoops have had to ask their recruitment team to find some alternatives.
A long list has been drawn up by Nick Hammond and co who have targeted the likes of Vasilis Barkas, Marcus Bettinelli and David Marshall. Though, it remains to be seen who their number one target is.
Another stopper the Bhoys have their eyes on is Joe Hart.
The former England man is without a club after leaving Burnley and would cost Hammond absolutely nothing if he could lure the 33-year-old to Glasgow.
Football Insider revealed this week that Celtic had reached a breakthrough in negotiations to try and sign the ex-Manchester City goalkeeper but one of their pundits have now chimed in with their thoughts.
Noel Whelan gave his opinion on Hart, tipping him to sign for the club because of his affordable wages and the lack of transfer fee involved.
He noted:
"Lennon will have people in mind and Joe Hart’s name has been talked about. He is a free agent so he will cost nothing and they will be able to afford his wages.
“He would be a standout goalkeeper in the Scottish Premiership. A player that has bags of experience and it is not like he will be playing against Aguero and Salah every week, there is not that amount of quality.
“He would fit straight in and be the presence that Celtic fans would be more than happy with.”

A move for Hart would certainly be eye-catching and of all the names to be linked with the Hoops in recent weeks, he is surely the best and one of the most established.
Capped 75 times by his country, he was once one of the top 'keepers in the Premier League, winning multiple honours with Man City.
However, since he was unceremoniously dumped by Pep Guardiola, he has struggled for regular minutes.
He never got the rub of the green with Burnley and will be eager to impress at a club as big as Celtic - the thought of European football must also be incredibly appealing to the Englishman.
If Hoops fans needed any reminder of his ability, you only need to look towards the thoughts of Brendan Rodgers in 2016. When linked with a move to Liverpool, he said:
"You’ve got Simon [Mignolet] there and the goalkeeper they brought in who is injured but I’ve always rated Joe – I think he is an outstanding ‘keeper."
If the club can indeed afford a move for Hart, it is surely a no-brainer.
