It's set to be a big summer for Tottenham Hotspur.

After a difficult campaign the North London side will be putting the wheels in motion to challenge for a top four spot next term.

A Champions League position is all-but out of the question this season, and so that means that efforts must be doubled once the transfer window opens.

If Jose Mourinho is to get his side back on track, it's like that Spurs will need wholesale reinforcements.

One position that is surprisingly being targeted is between the sticks.

Hugo Lloris is the club captain and a sure-starter, however reports have suggested that Tottenham could be looking at a potential replacement.

The French international stopper is 33 years of age and so the North London side could be looking for a younger option as they plan for the long-term.

One player linked is Mike Maignan.

The Lille stopper enjoys a good reputation in France and is being tipped to succeed his fellow countryman at Spurs.

L'Equipe are reporting that Maignan is a top target for Tottenham, but that the goalkeeper has a big decision to make as he weighs up his options.

It's claimed that the 25-year-old knows that he wouldn't be an automatic starter, and that could be a worry given his aspirations of being named in the France squad for next summer's European championships.

Should Maignan be given assurances over his playing time, it could be a move that materialise.

However with the stopper valued at £15.75million by Transfermarkt, it may the case that Tottenham need to fork out to get he deal done.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is a deal that could have legs.

With Tottenham facing a changing of the guard, it may be the case that they need to look at cheaper alternatives to some of their longest-serving stars.

Several high profile players are leaving this summer, and with Champions League football unlikely, there could be several more.

Hugo Lloris is approaching the end of his career and after several years of service you couldn't argue if he sought a move to a club competing in Europe's premier competition.

If that happens then a move for Mike Maignan could make sense.

If Hugo Lloris is still in North London, I don't see this move happening.

However if he moves on then this is exactly the sort of deal that Jose Mourinho should be targeting.
