Liverpool are attempting to improve their squad ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Reds have won the Premier League title and have clearly taken their foot off the gas.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp’s side were beaten 4-0 by Manchester City in their first game as champions and lost 2-1 to Arsenal on Wednesday evening.

The latter result has left it impossible for the club to match City’s record of 100 points, and with two games of the season remaining, Liverpool face Chelsea and Newcastle United.

The Reds will, though, lift the trophy after the game against the Blues, confirming their rise to the top table of English football.

Nevertheless, Klopp’s side are looking to strengthen ahead of the transfer window.

Thiago Alcantara has been touted as a possible target; the Bayern Munich man could be set to leave the Bavarian giants in the summer.

They have yet to make an offer for the ex-Barcelona ace, per Sport Bild, but there is interest in acquiring the Spaniard’s signature.

The report states that Liverpool would like to pay €20 million (£18.1m) for him, though Bayern want to receive €40m (£36.3m) if they are to let him go.

Thiago has made 24 appearances for Bayern in the league this season, scoring three goals.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

There is clearly some wiggle room for Liverpool here.

The two clubs are far apart in terms of their valuation of the player but negotiations could well bring the fee down.

It is worth exploring, too, because Thiago is an exceptional player who would add some genuine value to the squad on Merseyside.

The playmaker can both break lines with his passing and dribbling, given his incredible footwork and eye for a pass.

The ex-Barcelona man is clearly not valued as highly as he could be, given that Bayern appear willing to let him go, but this is a superb, dynamic midfield player.

Liverpool need to get this deal done.
