The UFC continues to go from strength to strength despite the current coronavirus pandemic. Having been founded in 1993, the franchise has never been more competitive than it is today.

With that in mind, Ranker, a website which relies on fans for their rankings, have asked the public to name the top 25 active UFC fighters.

Here is what fans came up with.

25. Nate Diaz

The veteran southpaw has never held a UFC championship belt, but has still been involved in some classic match-ups, including his two fights with Conor McGregor. Fans still dream of a deciding bout between the pair.

24. Colby Covington

One of the most divisive figures in MMA. The outspoken welterweight loves playing the villain and is a well-known Donald Trump supporter. He fell just short in his bid for championship gold against Kamaru Usman in December 2019.

23. Paulo Costa

The Brazilian knockout artist is closing in on a title shot. The 29-year-old could provide Israel Adesanya with his toughest test to date.

22. Leon Edwards

Edwards is currently on an eight-fight win streak, and beat former UFC champion Rafael dos Anjos last time out. The Brit is building momentum and may get the chance to avenge a 2015 loss to Kamaru Usman soon.

21. Jose Aldo

Having held the UFC featherweight title from 2011 to 2015, Aldo has lost six of his last nine fights. However, he remains a class act and deserves his place on this list.

20. Dominick Reyes

Few gave Reyes much of a chance when he took on Jon Jones last year. Yet he put in an excellent display, with plenty of supporters feeling that he was unlucky not to get the verdict on the night. He proved his world-class credentials in that fight.

19. Tyron Woodley

Woodley turned 38 in April, and has only fought twice since September 2018. Both of those contests ended in defeat, but he defended the welterweight title for two years before that, which gets him onto this list.

18. Yoel Romero

The Cuban wrestler is still going strong at 43. The former Olympic silver medallist gives anyone a tough night in the Octagon, although he is yet to win a UFC belt.

17. Robert Whittaker

A former opponent of Romero's takes the spot above him. Whittaker beat Romero twice on his way to winning the middleweight title, but lost his first defence against Israel Adesanya last October.

16. Jorge Masvidal

Masvidal had a stunning 2019, beating Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz. His knockout of Askren was the fastest in UFC history. The veteran recently lost to Kamaru Usman, but will surely be back before too long.

15. Francis Ngannou

Arguably the scariest fighter in the UFC today. Ngannou has freakish power and has won his last four fights inside the first round. Another shot at the heavyweight title appears inevitable.

14. Dustin Poirier

Poirier is never in a dull fight. His back-and-forth battle with Dan Hooker last month was one of the best fights of 2020 so far. 'The Diamond' still has plenty more sparkling performances in him yet.

13. Conor McGregor

Some may argue that McGregor is currently retired, but we all know that it is very likely that he will return at some point. The Irishman has taken the UFC by storm, quickly becoming one of the most exciting fighters in the sport.

12. Tony Ferguson

Ferguson might just be the most unfortunate fighter in MMA in recent years. He has been waiting for a title shot for years, but it has failed to arrive. Having lost his last fight to Justin Gaethje, you have to wonder if his time has been and gone.

11. Alexander Volkanovski

The Australian featherweight lost the fourth fight of his career, but has won 19 straight contests since. His recent back-to-back wins over Max Holloway have confirmed that he is the best in his division right now.

10. Demetrious Johnson

Johnson has actually fought his last three fights away from the UFC, but has done more than enough to cement his legacy as a great of the sport. He held the flyweight championship from 2012 to 2018, producing a number of impressive submission finishes along the way.

9. Justin Gaethje

Gaethje lost his second and third UFC fights, but he has been in stunning form ever since. He dominated Tony Ferguson back in May and is now next in line for a title shot.

8. Max Holloway

It is scarcely believable that Holloway is still only 28. Holloway is always in must-watch fights, and despite losing three of his last four fights, he still has plenty left to offer at the highest level.

7. Kamaru Usman

'The Nigerian Nightmare' may not be the most entertaining fighter in the sport, but he is mightily effective. The 33-year-old dominated his most recent bout with Jorge Masvidal, retaining his welterweight title in the process.

6. Daniel Cormier

A true veteran of the sport. Cormier has been involved in some of the biggest fights in history against Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. His trilogy bout with Miocic is due to take place next month. It is expected to be the final fight of Cormier's decorated career.

5. Israel Adesanya

A born entertainer. Adesanya only joined the UFC in 2018, and he did not take long to make an impact. The undefeated middleweight is now one of the biggest attractions in the sport.

4. Henry Cejudo

A little like McGregor, Cejudo announced his retirement recently. Again, we are not too sure if we believe him. The 2008 Olympic gold medallist has also won titles in two weight divisions in the UFC, securing his status as a modern-day great.

3. Stipe Miocic

The two-time heavyweight champion is widely regarded as the best ever in the division. He will get the chance to prove that beyond doubt when he takes on Daniel Cormier for a third time in August.

2. Jon Jones

Just missing out on top spot is the controversial Jones. The light-heavyweight has dominated his division for the past decade, but his failed drugs tests and unwillingness to move up to heavyweight thus far may have cost him here.

1. Khabib Nurmagomedov

It had to be Khabib. Not only does he not lose fights, he does not lose rounds either. The Russian grappler has rarely looked troubled, and is head and shoulders above the rest of the lightweight division right now.
