If you believe Richard Keys, god forbid, then Newcastle's takeover will go through on Friday.

The beIN Sports presenter revealed earlier this week on his blog that things would be all wrapped up at the end of the week.

However, little did he expect the news that came out of Saudi Arabia just a day after those claims were made.

Remarkably, the network Keys has been working for in the Middle-East, has now been completely banned by Saudi Arabia.

beIN were at the heart and centre of a piracy dispute, screening Premier League matches illegally to their customers.

It was thought a TV deal was going to be agreed between the top-flight and beIN but that now appears to be completely impossible given the latest bombshell.

If things weren't bad enough for the broadcaster, they were also handed a fine of £2m.

However, despite that, things from both the buyers and sellers have been pretty quiet in the last few weeks.

Mohammed Bin Salman and PIF have issued no statements while Mike Ashley is just intent on letting proceedings rumble on in the background.

In some ways it's frustrating - everyone just wants to know what's going on. However, there is little that can be said. Newcastle just need the issues in Saudi Arabia to be resolved.

Despite the quiet nature of the saga at the moment, George Caulkin confirmed that discussions are still taking place.

Speaking on the latest episode of Pod on the Tyne, he said:

"They're still having their usual conversations internally, but albeit, it has been quiet. It's been noticeably sort of quiet in the last couple of weeks. And I mean, I hope that's a good sign."

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

The longer this saga goes on, the more unhealthy and worrying it becomes for Newcastle United.

Keys seems to suggest things will be done by Friday but that now feels absolutely impossible.

After all, a TV deal still needs to happen for the top-flight to pass the takeover. An agreement could be on the cards with one of Saudi Arabia's own networks but that hasn't been entirely confirmed.

Though, if they wait any longer to work things out, it's only going to be bad news for the Magpies.

They need to sort out their summer transfers while the future of Steve Bruce appears to be in limbo given the new owners could prefer a different choice of manager.

However, financially, the club is also uncertain.

Their sponsorship deal with FUN88 runs out in a few weeks and with no sign of a new arrangement being in place, PIF could have a mammoth list of tasks to address as soon as they walk through the door.
