How do you improve this Liverpool side?

The Reds may no longer be able to break the Premier League points record but they can still reach 99 points this season.

By definition, they’re one of the greatest sides in Premier League history.

But results since the restart suggest there is room to improve Jurgen Klopp’s side.

They’ve drawn matches against Everton and Burnley and suffered defeats against Manchester City and Arsenal.

In their latest loss against the Gunners, Klopp turned to the likes of Takumi Minamino, Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi to come off the bench to change the game.

Earlier in the day, Manchester City fielded a bench which consisted of Kevin de Bruyne, Aymeric Laporte, Rodri, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling.

If the Premier League allows five substitutions to be made in matches next season, City immediately have a huge advantage over Liverpool.

However, it seems the champions are very close to making their first signing of the summer.

For weeks, they’ve been linked with a sensational move for Bayern Munich’s Thiago.

And it looks as though it’s about to happen.

Reliable German outlet Bild are now reporting Liverpool have agreed terms with the midfielder - and Jurgen Klopp has even approved the signing.

Head of football at Bild, Christian Falk, followed that up on Friday morning by revealing Klopp has informed Liverpool's board that he wants Thiago.

The only stumbling block remains the fee.

Bayern want €40 million for the 29-year-old, while Liverpool are only willing to pay €25 million.

Whether that will prevent the deal from going through remains to be seen.

But the club want the deal to happen, Klopp wants the deal to happen and Thiago wants the deal to happen.
