Manchester City are preparing for what is going to be a huge summer.

After losing the Premier League title to Liverpool, Pep Guardiola's side will determined to ensure that they come back fighting next term.

Given the funds that have been spent, and the set-up that's been built at the Etihad Stadium it's a minimum expectation that City challenge for every major honour going, and that just hasn't happened.

With two fixtures left, Man City are a staggering 18 points behind Jurgen Klopp's side - a tally which is just not acceptable.

Things looked like they were going from bad to worse as City faced the prospect of a lengthy ban from European competition, however with the two-year ban overturned, it seems that Guardiola's side will be free to challenge on all fronts next term.

If they're to challenge for the Premier League title alongside the Champions League, it seems that the squad will need something of a revamp this summer.

But who will Pep Guardiola be targeting?

The Daily Star have taken a look at five of the players on Manchester City's hit list.

Pau Torres

The Vilarreal man is destined for a big move this summer.

A left-footed central defender, Torres is exactly what Pep Guardiola is looking for as he targets a player who can compliment Aymeric Laporte at the heart of his defence.

6ft 3in tall and excellent on the ball, the 23-year-old ticks all of the boxes to be a hit at Manchester City, and with a £45million release clause he could be bought for a relatively modest fee.

Nathan Ake

We know all about the highly-rated defender from his time at Bournemouth, but with the Cherries battling relegation it seems that the time has come for Ake to move on.

The 25-year-old knows what it's like to play for a top club after coming through the ranks at Chelsea, so moving to Man City will not be an issue.

Another defensive option, Ake could be appealing based on his in-depth knowledge of the Premier League.

Kalidou Koulibaly

A player who we're hearing a lot about this summer.

The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to several of Europe's biggest clubs, with Liverpool and Manchester United also said to be keen.

Valued at around £65million, it remains to be seen if this is a move that will appeal to Pep Guardiola with younger and cheaper options available.

Ferran Torres

This is a lad who is destined for the very top.

A 20-year-old winger, Torres could be the ideal replacement for Leroy Sane after he completed his move to Bayern Munich.

With his best years ahead of him, this would certainly be a move that would tickle Guardiola's fancy as he looks to turn the next young star into a world-beater.

Ruben Dias

A player who Manchester City have been looking at for a while.

The 23-year-old looks ready to leave Benfica for one of Europe's top tier sides, and City could be that team.

A recent contract renewal has seen his release clause rocket to £89million, so Pep Guardiola will have to be adamant that he wants Dias if he's to fork out such a high sum.
