It's set to be a big summer for Tottenham Hotspur.

After a difficult campaign the North London side will be putting the wheels in motion to challenge for a top four spot next term.

A Champions League position is all-but out of the question this season, and so that means that efforts must be doubled once the transfer window opens.

If Jose Mourinho is to get his side back on track, it's like that Spurs will need wholesale reinforcements.

One position that is being targeted is in attacking midfield.

Christian Eriksen moved on from the club in the January transfer window and it seems that Mourinho could be keen to bring in a playmaker to add some creativity to the middle of the park.

Several names have been linked with Spurs, such as Philippe Coutinho.

The midfielder is available after being deemed surplus to requirements by Barcelona.

A number of clubs are said to be interested in a move for the Brazilian - most notably Chelsea and Newcastle United - with the star reported to be available for a cut-price fee of £44.5million.

However another name linked is Jack Grealish.

The midfielder has very much established himself as the talisman of Dean Smith's Aston Villa side after guiding the team back to the Premier League.

But with his boyhood club on the cusp of relegation, it seems that the 24-year-old's days at Villa Park are numbered.

Reports claim that regardless of whether Villa avoid the drop this term, he'll likely seek pastures new as he looks to fulfil his potential in the top flight.

Manchester United have been most heavily linked, however a move for Grealish is likely to cost in the region of £80million.

Given Tottenham Hotspur's lack of creativity it's possible hat they could revisit the player that they've targeted in years gone by, however according to Alasdair Gold of Football London, a move would only be plausible if funds were raised by some major departures.

Gold wrote: "I can't see Spurs affording Grealish without moving someone costly on.

"I think there will be a bit of a battle for the Villa man. As I said about Tanguy Ndombele, the current plan is to continue trying to develop him."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

News of Jack Grealish's likely departure is bound to be a huge blow to Villa supporters.

The midfielder epitomises exactly what Aston Villa is about as a local lad who has gone on to become a talisman to his hometown club.

Losing him will be a massive blow, but it is understandable.

Grealish has outgrown Aston Villa and deserves the opportunity to challenge himself at a higher level of the game.

He's a big-game player and that means that I have no doubt of his ability to make it a top level club.

Providing that Aston Villa receive a good fee, I think it's probably the best thing for all parties.

It does seem unlikely that Spurs would make a move for the midfielder, but given their previous interest I wouldn't be surprised if a deal got done.
