It's set to be a big summer for Tottenham Hotspur.

After a difficult campaign the North London side will be putting the wheels in motion to challenge for a top four spot next term.

A Champions League position is all-but out of the question this season, and so that means that efforts must be doubled once the transfer window opens.

If Jose Mourinho is to get his side back on track, it's like that Spurs will need wholesale reinforcements.

One position that is surprisingly being targeted is in attack.

Harry Kane has occupied the striker's role during the last five seasons, but with speculation over his future it seems that the North London club are tracking several other targets.

But while first team signing are the priority, it seems that one for the future is close to being tied up.

According to Football Insider, Spurs are on the cusp of signing Alfie Devine.

The 15-year-old midfielder is heading to North London to undergo a medical ahead of a summer switch.

The Wigan Athletic prospect has an incredibly bright future ahead of him after bursting onto the scene in the FA Youth Cup this season.

Devine started his career at Liverpool but moved to the Latics where he has been featuring for the under-23s.

However with a move to Tottenham Hotspur on the horizon, it seems that he could be about to step up once again.

He's not the only youngster on Jose Mourinho radar.

According to ESPN, the Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence is also summer target for the North London side.

The 19-year-old has burst onto the scene at the Riverside Stadium this term and has established himself as a regular feature in the first team squad.

That emergence has seen Spence become a transfer target for Spurs, West Ham Southampton, Sheffield United and Burnley.

It's claimed that Jose Mourinho's said may need to fork out around £10million to convince Middlesbrough to sell, with Spence likely to be a big part of their plans in the coming years.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This could be a very shrewd move.

While Alfie Devine is not ready for first team football yet, he may well be a top talent in the years to come.

A move to Spurs would be a great step for him as he looks to challenge himself among some of the best players in the Premier League.

Spurs are making a conscious effort to sign talented young British players and hopefully that will be something that pays off in the future.

The future certainly looks bright for the North London side and deals like this are only going to strengthen their position.
