It's set to be an exciting summer for Newcastle United supporters.

While the Premier League are yet to make a decision on the proposed takeover of the club from Amanda Staveley and the Saudi-backed consortium for a sum of £300m, that won't stop them making preparations for the transfer market.

The Magpies have secured survival in the Premier League, meaning that plans can be made for next season.

Regardless of who will be running the club, the first team squad needs strengthening and that has to be a priority.

While defensive position are of the utmost importance, it's likely that Steve Bruce will be looking to bolster his attacking line after a poor season in front of goal.

Joelinton arrived at the club last summer but has failed to hit the ground running, meaning that a new striker could be brought in to ease the workload on him.

If one link is to be believed, Newcastle fans should be very excited.

Reports emerged last month linking the Tynesiders with a move for Ciro Immobile.

It was claimed that a £49million deal would be enough to tempt Lazio into selling the much-decorated striker.

Those reports went cold, however it's now been claimed that the 30-year-old could be open to a move.

Corriere dello Sport, quoted by Sport Witness, have said that the Italian would consider a switch to St James' Park for a 'pharaonic offer'.

It's claimed that Immobile earns a smaller amount than some of his colleagues, and with just a few years left of his career at the highest level, the striker could be open to a big payday.

Whether Newcastle would be willing to pay such a large amount for a player in the autumn of his career remains to be seen, but it would certainly be a signal of intent.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

What a move this would be for Newcastle United.

Speculation continues over the potential takeover of the club, but with it being suggested that a deal is close attention will turn to the transfer market.

The new owners would love a marquee signing to get supporters excited and Ciro Immobile would certainly be that.

The Italian is a proven predator in front of goal and so could be a real asset as the Magpies look to challenge in the Premier League.

If he was to move to Newcastle United he would no doubt be the main man in the first team set-up - something which would put Joelinton's role in doubt.

However with his lack of form this term it might be something that fans are happy about.

That said, I can't really see it happening and to me in seems like an agent angling for a new contract or a touting his client for a big-money move.
