What a season it has been for for Leeds United.

After securing promotion to the Premier League, the Whites secured their status as the league winners after a thoroughly impressive.

That has also brought an end to a 16-year exile from the top flight.

If they can get themselves over the line it would end a 16-year exile from the Premier League.

With just one game left this term, attention will now turn to the summer transfer market.

Plenty of players will be a linked with a move over the coming weeks and months, but in truth only a handful will be a plausible targets.

But that doesn't mean that the hard work isn't being put in behind the scenes.

One man who's been linked is Jonathan Silva.

Valued at £2.88m by Transfermarkt, the defender is available for a move after his side Leganes were relegated from La Liga this term.

A left-back by trade, Silva was one of Leganes' standout performers this term after making 33 appearances in the Spanish top flight.

According to Spanish publication AS, that has alerted Leeds United to his services.

One of the people representing Silva is former Leeds striker Luciano Becchio, and the former forward has confirmed the Whites' interest in defender.

Speaking to Spanish publication AS, Becchio said: “Of the players that I can recommend, it is Jonathan Silva.

"Former Boca Juniors, he is playing left-back at Leganés.

"In fact, we are already in contact with the club. Let’s see what happens in the future.“

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is certainly a move that we'll be watching with interest.

Jonathan Silva is likely to be hot property this term after being the standout player in a Leganes side who struggled.

That said, he's already proved that he's capable of playing at the highest level.

A move to Leeds United certainly seems to make sense, and with Luciano Becchio representing him, there's no doubt that it could be a slightly easier sell than most.

Marcelo Bielsa is almost certain to be looking for a left-back this summer, with the defensive role being a problem position for a little while.

Barry Douglas, Gjanni Alioski and Stuart Dallas all featuring on the left side at times this term.

While Dallas has done a decent enough job, Bielsa is certain to be looking for a natural fit ahead of their return to the Premier League.

If a deal can be struck with Silva it could be great news, and a reassuring piece of early business as the Whites look to get their squad ready for the quick turnaround going into the new campaign.
