Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen. The Blues have already completed moves for Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, and the rebuilding is set to continue with Havertz’s arrival. It was reported by Sky Italia’s Angelo Mangiante on Monday that Havertz has agreed to terms on a deal.“Personal terms have already been agreed,” Mangiante said.“Kai Havertz just wants to join Chelsea. No other team.”

Havertz, 21, comes with an exciting reputation following two standout seasons in Germany with Leverkusen.

He scored 20 goals in all competitions 2018/19 and has added 17 more in 2019/20.

Those are impressive numbers for a player who has operated mostly as an attacking midfielder this season.

But Havertz can play out wide and deeper, too. Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will love his versatility, should a deal be completed.

For Havertz, it’s an opportunity to play in the Premier League and he will also have been tempted by the salary on offer at Stamford Bridge.

Journalist Nicolo Schira reports that the Germany international will sign a five-year contract worth £140,000-per-week.

That doesn’t include add-ons, which would increase Havertz’s salary.

But that flat rate is still enough to make him Chelsea’s fifth-highest earner.

Werner’s £170,000-per-week contract makes him the best-paid player at Stamford Bridge.

Behind him, Kepa Arrizabalaga and N'Golo earn £150,000-per-week and Christian Pulisic (£145,000-per-week) is also on a hefty wage.

Havertz would slot in behind them if he joins the west London club.

Leverkusen are reportedly holding out for £90 million for the attacker.
