Rangers FC have big aspirations for the season ahead.

After watching Celtic win their ninth-straight league title last term, they'll be determined to stop them recording a historic 10-in-a-row.

If Steven Gerrard's side are to do that then it'll be crucial to make sure that they have a side that's capable of lasting the pace in the title race.

As well as working with the young players at the club to get them up to speed, it'll also mean going into the transfer market and signing players who can close that gap on their Glasgow rivals.

Many positions have been discussed as areas to improve this summer, but one seems to be attracting all of the attention.

That is the role of centre-forward.

Speculation is building over the future of Alfredo Morelos, who has been heavily linked with a move away from the club.

Several teams in the Premier League and in Italy's Serie A have been linked, and few would be surprised if he was to move on this summer.

That means that the addition of another player who can guarantee goals is fast-becoming a top priority.

Several names have been linked, but the name of Kemar Roofe keeps surfacing.

The former Leeds United man scored seven goals in 16 appearances for Belgian side Anderlecht last season, leading to reports that he might move on.

Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, Roofe was the subject of interest from Rangers last summer, however he opted for a move to Belgium after leaving Leeds United.

However a move to the United Kingdom could be back on the card with Voetbal24 reporting that Rangers have not given up on a move and are considering a £6m offer.

Whether that will be enough to complete a move, however, remains to be seen.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

The Alfredo Morelos saga needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

Rumours have been building all summer that the striker is ready to move on, but with the new season just around the corner nothing has been decided.

This has to change.

If Steven Gerrard is to help Rangers to mount a serious title challenge they need to be fully committed to the task at hand from day one.

They can't afford to be carrying passengers as they'll need every point that they can muster.

If Morelos does move - and that does seem likely now - a move for Kemar Roofe would be great business.

Roofe is a proven goalscorer at a high level and that means that he's almost certain to be a hit if he was to move to Ibrox.

As far as I'm concerned, if the Glasgow side can move on Morelos and replace him with Roofe before the start of the new season, that'll be excellent business.
