Chelsea fans were given a massive boost in their hunt for Kai Havertz on Thursday afternoon.Multiple reports have claimed that the German starlet will be following in the footsteps of compatriot Timo Werner by sealing a potential club-record move to Stamford Bridge.The 21-year-old is one of the most exciting young players in the European football and has only continued to impress at Bayer Leverkusen this season with 12 league goals and assists.
Chelsea's German ambitions
And supporters were handed cause for optimism when they least expected it after former Manchester City forward Leroy Sane appeared to say a little too much this afternoon.
Sane was speaking to the press during his unveiling as a Bayern Munich player and seemed to big up his country's talent pool by noting how Chelsea have tapped into it this summer.
The Bayern signing seemed to effectively confirm that Havertz was on his way to west London by referring to his progress with a transfer in the same tone as that of the confirmed Werner.
Havertz already signed and sealed?
According to ESPN, Sane's response translated to: "It's good for Chelsea, that they signed two German top talents with Timo Werner and Kai Havertz this summer."
'Signed', you say? As in the past tense, you say? It's not difficult to see why the footage of Sane's potential slip of the tongue - or bizarre announcement, if you will - has nearly tallied up 1,000 reweets.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reacted by saying: "Leroy Sané basically knows that Kai Havertz wants to join Chelsea. Havertz is pushing by two weeks. His contract until June 2025 is ready as said days ago."
It might have been a quiet and disappointing end to the season for Chelsea, who recently lost 5-3 at Anfield, but there transfer business is cause to be optimistic ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
As well as Werner's arrival and the potential procurement of Havertz, the Blues have also opened their wallet for the former Ajax wizard Hakim Ziyech.
While, yes, there's still plenty of work for Frank Lampard to do with this back four and a certain Kepa Arrizabalaga, there can be no denying that Chelsea's front-line is starting to look unstoppable.
So, sure, Manchester City and Liverpool might be leading the way in the Premier League right now, but you can't fault Chelsea for trying in their attempts to end the duopoly.
