The Premier League's longest ever season is now just one game-week away from completion.

Liverpool have already sewn up their maiden trophy in the competition, but there's still plenty to play for in the race to reach the Champions League and to avoid relegation across Sunday's fixtures.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Leicester are all scrapping for the European promised land, while Watford, Aston Villa and Bournemouth are hoping to dodge the trapdoor to the Championship.

Premier League awards season

However, we've seen enough from the first 37 game-weeks to get a clear picture of the best performers of the season and that's gradually being reflected in the annual round of awards.

Jordan Henderson was confirmed as the winner of the FWA Player of the Year award this morning and the Liverpool captain will soon do battle with Kevin De Bruyne for the PFA accolade.

But arguably the most interesting selection will come in the PFA Team of the Year, where there is much more room for shock selections, controversial picks and a range of clubs to feature.

Team of the Season?

What it doesn't necessarily reflect, however, is the opinion of the fans, so BT Sport have gone out of their way to provide an alternative Team of the Year by giving power to the supporters.

Using Liverpool's title-winning 4-3-3 as the formation for success, they opened up Twitter polls for fans to choose who they think should feature in each position of the starting XI.

With players from Liverpool, Leicester, United and City all making the cut, you can check out what the thousands of fans concluded below and see what changes you would make.

p1ee0b02uo1pg8f7hv771gb51l6tb.jpg

Goalkeeper

1. Alisson Becker - 33.8%

2. Dean Henderson - 32.6%

3. Nick Pope - 31.2%

4. Rui Patricio - 2.3%

By far the closest category and you've got to credit Alisson for thrusting himself into the Golden Glove race despite spending large segments of the season on the treatment table.

And if this doesn't persuade Gareth Southgate to play either Pope or Henderson over Jordan Pickford when international football returns, then there's officially no sense in the world.

Right-back

1. Trent Alexander-Arnold - 73.3%

2. Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 19.1%

3. Ricardo Pereira - 4.4%

4. Matt Doherty - 3.2%

No arguments here with Alexander-Arnold solidifying his status as the world's best right-back with an incredible 13 assists and THAT masterclass during the 4-0 thrashing of Leicester.

Speaking of the Foxes, though; we can't help feeling that Pereira has been done dirty here, considering WhoScored.com stats rate him as the competition's third best player this season.

Centre-back #1

1. Virgil van Dijk - 83.1%

2. James Tarkowski - 7.1%

3. John Egan - 4.9%

4. Conor Coady - 3.9%

Centre-back #2

1. Caglar Soyuncu - 49.8%

2. Harry Maguire - 29.7%

3. Lewis Dunk - 12.6%

4. Fernandinho - 8.0%

Pretty hard to disagree with the centre-back picks, in fairness. Van Dijk is an absolute no-brainer as the world's best centre-back and he's even added four goals to his record for good measure.

Maguire finishing second in the other vote isn't as silly as his recent form might make it look, but sense has prevailed with the potentially-unfashionable Soyuncu being rewarded for a stellar season.

Left-back

1. Andrew Robertson - 70.7%

2. Ben Chilwell - 14.16%

3. Lucas Digne - 9.3%

4. Enda Stevenes - 5.4%

Robertson might not have reached the dizzying heights of Alexander-Arnold or Van Dijk this season, but 11 assists alone makes his landslide victory well and truly justified.

It's good to see Digne and Chilwell in particular getting due props for impressive campaigns, even if they can't hold a candle to their Scottish conquerer who might well be the world's best left-back.

Central midfield #1

1. Jordan Henderson - 51.6%

2. Wilfred N'Didi - 21.3%

3. Declan Rice - 15.3%

4. Ruben Neves - 11.8%

Central midfield #2

1. Kevin De Bruyne - 82.7%

2. Fabinho - 10.8%

3. Mateo Kovacic - 3.9%

4. Joao Moutinho - 2.5%

Central midfield #3

1. Bruno Fernandes - 51.9%

2. Jack Grealish - 19.6%

3. David Silva - 19.1%

4. James Maddison - 9.4%

There's a lot to unpack here, but I don't think they'll be any protestations with De Bruyne and Henderson making the starting XI seeing as they're the leading contenders for the PFA prize.

The Man City star could well overtake Thierry Henry's Premier League assists record on Sunday, while Henderson's rise to Liverpool's all-conquering captain has been thrilling to watch.

We feel a little bit uneasy about Fernandes making the cut, though, because you have to wonder whether 13 whirlwind games should be enough to top solid seasons from Grealish and Silva.

Right-wing

1. Mohamed Salah - 54.1%

2. Adama Traore - 25.3%

3. Riyad Mahrez - 17.4%

4. Richarlison - 3.3%

What a stacked category this is. It says everything about how incredible Salah has been for Liverpool that his goal-scoring has dipped for a second consecutive year, but he's still the best in the business.

Traore has, by all accounts, been a revelation for Wolves this season, while it's also refreshing to see Mahrez getting the credit he deserves after really kicking on at the Etihad Stadium in 2019/20.

Left-wing

1. Sadio Mane - 46.8%

2. Marcus Rashford - 25.2%

3. Raheem Sterling - 19.3%

4. Christian Pulisic - 8.6%

Once again, there's plenty to think about in this category, but Liverpool's omnipotence makes the decision pretty straight forward with Mane proving why he's one of the best players in the world.

But Rashford over Sterling? Hmmm. It seems to have flown completely under the radar that Sterling is on the brink of reaching 20 goals from out wide and that's despite a drought in early 2020.

Centre forward

1. Anthony Martial - 36.7%

2. Danny Ings - 34.2%

3. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 16.6%

4. Jamie Vardy - 12.5%

You what!? You what!? It's clear that United fans have hijacked this Twitter poll then, riding the wave of hype that Martial has admittedly deserved, but only over the course of the last few weeks.

And why on earth has Vardy wound up rock bottom? Can I politely remind you that the former England striker is on course to win the Golden Boot and all in a team that finished 9th last year.

Full starting XI

p1ee0bjecf1lv2ir01huiga61bvi11.jpg

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

Right, straight off the bat, here's my adjusted XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Soyuncu, Robertson, Henderson, De Bruyne, Silva, Salah, Mane and Ings.

So, yes, I agree with the fans for the most part, but I'm bringing in Silva and Ings.

Forget the nonsense that is Martial making the team, it's between Ings and Vardy as far I'm - and the goal-scoring charts - are concerned.

Ings gets the nods in my eyes, though, for having achieved his record at a team that looked to be on course for relegation at the start of the season and were trounced 9-0 by Leicester.

p1ee0bfmadf7i1gmoo2b1uvrn95t.jpg

That, and the fact he's had a greater individual impact on Southampton than Vardy has had for the Foxes this year with Ings having scored some stunning individual goals since the restart.

As for ditching Fernandes... no, I don't have a vendetta against United and I would have picked him every day of the week if he had delivered this form at the club all season long, albeit completely out of his hands.

I'll take a consistently superb season from Silva over a whirlwind 13 games any day.
