Edge and Randy Orton have been at the centre of one of the most interesting feuds in years on WWE television.

The Rated R Superstar returned to the company at the Royal Rumble in January, eliminating his former tag team partner from the showcase match.

That led to a Last Man Standing match on night two of WrestleMania 36.

The match lasted 36 minutes and concluded with Edge’s victory, seemingly putting the feud to bed.

However, hostilities were renewed at Backlash in a bout that was billed as the ‘Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’.

The two went 44 minutes in an instant classic, featuring spears, RKOs, Rock Bottoms, and all manner of false finishes.

The match ended with Orton’s victory, and there has to be a rubber match if the feud is to actually end properly.

And it appears that WWE has a plan for that.

It must be noted, of course, that Edge sustained an injury in the Backlash encounter with Orton, tearing his triceps and ruling himself out for up to eight months.

The two were set to face off at SummerSlam but his injury has put paid to that and Dave Meltzer, of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, has now reported that plans have been altered.

It will be an I Quit match, and the two will face off at WrestleMania 37, as transcribed by Cultaholic.

Meltzer is also said to have reported that Edge is currently working on the writing team for RAW, holding “significant creative influence”.

It seems as though he may well have a say in how the match with Orton goes down, then, when they do finally go head-to-head.

If it’s anything like their Backlash battle, we’re in for a treat.
